Job searching or hunting - however you want to put it - is difficult. I have recently relocated from a small town to a city - i love it so far.. but in search of a job.. has been frustrating. In my search I have been interviewed by some interesting people... One person particularly. 

I am a graduate student of an Advertising & Marketing strategies 2yr program. 

While searching online- i love jobbank.gc.ca for job searching, i came across this position for advertising consultant position with a local community newspaper. It seemed promising and I was excited. The next day my boyfriend and i went to the location... well let me tell you... this was the most sketchiest unprofessional place i could ever step foot in.

The front of the newspaper office looked like it had been abandoned, it had a meaningless painting in one window with a tiny web cam facing out towards the street and then in the other window were old computers and parts.  As i opened this so call newspapers door to enter there were pea green office cubicle walls, old office chairs filled with old newspapers, computers and there were leaves from the fall all over the floor. This lady came out assisted me and directed me to this room in the back where i met this particular person who calls them self not only an employer but probably if you were to ask him he would say a "genius" of some sort - FAR FROM!. 

This room was in the dark with a single light - when i thought it wouldn't get sketchier.. it definitely did!.. I handed him my resume and cover letter- he looked over it, don't think he read it though. So we continue with the interviewing process. He asks me what i have been doing for the last couple of months, I say since graduating serving at a restaurant/pub while i job hunted. He actually laughed!.. he asked me other questions and i answered... he asked me where my bf works and i said well GM and his response was " well you guys aren't far off." ARE YOU JOKING ME!? were my thoughts... what gives this person a right to judge if we are financially "far off". But i stayed positive thinking maybe if i could just get my foot in the door something else will come up. So he asked if could come back the next day. I said sure, we set up a time and that was it.

For a minute i had relief, after a couple of weeks of job searching i might just have something. 

The next day, i go in... training day.  So first of all when I get there, I was asked if i brought a pen and paper... um no.. I don't usually carry around notebooks. 

This newspaper claims to provide 4 media outlets. which in reality provide 2, with stems from them. Print and Web.  Print is distributed in Flyer form and newspaper, Web is in 2 forms Online newspaper and Internet Radio.

He then gives me papers with information on the newspaper and the medias, we have conversation and each conversation we have all i can think about how big this guy thinks his ego is.  

I will not go into all details of the "training process" because i would have to start writing a novel, but it was far from what i would considering training...more like bullshit and a waste of time.  I will highlight certain aspects that are absolutely laughable. 

Laughable conversation #1

My question about the measurement of reach or how to get numbers for listeners in the durham region for internet radio.

                 ---response>> "that doesn't matter, you don't need that."

              * anyone in advertising would laugh at that.. are you kidding me! OF COURSE you need                  that.. any client with a brain that works would want to know this information.. 

Laughable conversation #2

What's the meaning of adverting.? 

My response - to ensure that a message is being communicated in a media outlet to encourage action. 

-----His response--- NO! its to make you buy things. end of story. 

* HAHAHAHA are you really serious!? this is the point where i was frustrated and fed up. I was starving and just wanted to be out of that place... so I argued. No point it was a waste of breathe!

AS you may or may not understand the mentality of this certain individual but it is quite clear that there are more then a couple screws loose. However, over the last week or so I have been quite entertained by the response he has achieved online. THANK GOD I am not the only one who thinks thats his mannerisms and way of thinking are completely insane.
